Feature Products High On The Homepage

context

Visitors need to quickly understand what your store offers. If they don't see relevant products immediately, they may leave before exploring further.

Why?

Placing featured products high on the page instantly communicates your product range, helping users find something they like faster. This reduces friction in the browsing experience and increases the likelihood of engagement.

Content
  • Your homepage bounce rate is above 60% and average session duration is under 90 seconds
  • Google Analytics shows visitors aren't scrolling past the first screen (high exit rate on homepage)
  • You have 10+ SKUs but visitors struggle to discover your product range
  • Your store receives 1,000+ monthly visitors but product page views per session are below 2.5
  • You're using Shopify, Shopify Plus, or any platform that allows homepage customization

Move your featured products section to appear within the first 800 pixels of your homepage, immediately after your hero section.

  1. Shopify Implementation: Navigate to Online Store > Themes > Customize. Add or move a "Featured Collection" or "Product Grid" section to position 2, right below your hero banner.
  2. Product Selection: Display 4-8 products maximum. Choose your best-sellers, new arrivals, or representative items from different categories. Avoid overwhelming visitors with too many choices.
  3. Visual Specifications: Use high-quality product images (minimum 800x800px), maintain consistent spacing (20-30px between products), and ensure product titles are clearly readable (minimum 16px font size).
  4. Mobile Optimization: Show 2 products per row on mobile devices with adequate touch targets (minimum 44px height for buttons). Test scrolling behavior on actual devices.
  5. Call-to-Action: Include clear "Shop Now" or "View Product" buttons with contrasting colors. Position them prominently below each product image.

Implementation Timeline: 2-4 hours for basic setup, additional 2-3 hours for mobile optimization and testing.

  • Bounce Rate: Expect 8-15% reduction within 2-3 weeks of implementation
  • Product Discovery: Monitor product page views per session - target 15-25% increase
  • Engagement Depth: Track average session duration and pages per session improvements of 10-20%
  • Conversion Funnel: Measure homepage-to-product-page click-through rate using Google Analytics Enhanced Ecommerce or Shopify Analytics
  • AVOID: Placing products below the fold or after multiple content sections. BEST PRACTICE: Position featured products as the second element visitors see.
  • AVOID: Showing 12+ products in the featured section, causing decision paralysis. BEST PRACTICE: Limit to 6-8 carefully curated products maximum.
  • AVOID: Using low-quality or inconsistent product images. BEST PRACTICE: Maintain uniform image dimensions and professional photography standards.
  • AVOID: Forgetting mobile optimization - 70% of eCommerce traffic is mobile. BEST PRACTICE: Test on actual devices, not just browser developer tools.
