Highlight Product Characteristics with Depth & Visuals

Users want to understand exactly what makes your product special, but a basic product description often isn't enough. If key characteristics aren't clearly explained—both visually and in writing—potential buyers may struggle to see the full value.

Why?

Dedicate a section to breaking down product characteristics in detail. Use a mix of compelling copy and visuals—close-up images, icons, or diagrams—to reinforce key selling points like materials, technology, durability, or unique features. This deeper insight helps users connect with the product and move confidently toward checkout.

  • Your product pages have conversion rates below 2.5% or high bounce rates above 60%
  • Google Analytics shows users spending less than 45 seconds on product pages before exiting
  • You're selling products with technical features, premium materials, or unique construction that aren't immediately obvious
  • Your store receives 500+ monthly product page views and you have access to edit Shopify theme files or hire a developer
  • Customer support frequently receives questions about product specifications or materials that should be answered on the product page

Create a dedicated product characteristics section below your main product description using Shopify's metafields and custom sections.

  1. Set up product metafields: In Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Metafields > Products. Create custom fields for key characteristics like "Materials," "Technology," and "Durability Features."
  2. Add visual elements: Upload close-up detail images at 800x600px minimum. Create or source icons (32x32px) for each characteristic. Store these in your theme's assets folder.
  3. Build the section: In your product template, add a new section after the main description. Use a 3-column grid layout on desktop (stacks to single column on mobile). Each column should contain: icon, headline, 2-3 sentence explanation, and supporting detail image.
  4. Style for clarity: Use 16px body text, 20px headlines, and maintain 24px spacing between elements. Ensure 4:1 color contrast ratio for accessibility.
