Make Pricing Clear and Instantly Visible

Nothing kills purchase intent faster than unclear pricing. If users have to search for the price—or worse, scroll to find it—they may feel frustrated or assume the product is too expensive, leading to drop-offs.

Why?

Ensure pricing is prominent in your PDP's visual hierarchy. It should be large, easy to read, and positioned near the product title and "Add to Cart" button. If you offer discounts, clearly show the original and sale price to highlight savings. Transparent, well-placed pricing keeps users engaged and ready to buy.

  • Your product page conversion rate is below 2.5% or you're seeing high bounce rates above 60% on PDPs
  • Heat map data shows users scrolling excessively or clicking around the price area without converting
  • You're receiving customer service inquiries about pricing or users abandoning cart after seeing checkout totals
  • Your store runs on Shopify, WooCommerce, or similar platforms where you can modify product page templates
  • You have at least 1,000 monthly product page visitors to measure meaningful results

Follow these steps to optimize price visibility on your Shopify product pages:

  1. Position pricing in the F-pattern zone: Place price within 200px of the product title, typically right-aligned or directly below the title. Access your theme's product template file and modify the price container placement.
  2. Increase price font size: Set your price font to minimum 24px on desktop, 20px on mobile. Use CSS: font-size: 1.5rem; font-weight: 600; for optimal visibility.
  3. Create visual contrast: Use high contrast colors—dark text on light backgrounds or vice versa. Ensure minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio for accessibility compliance.
  4. Implement sale price formatting: Show original price with strikethrough and sale price in accent color. Structure: <span class="original-price">$99</span> <span class="sale-price">$79</span>
  5. Add percentage savings: Display savings as "Save 20%" near pricing to emphasize value proposition.
  6. Mobile optimization: Ensure pricing remains above the fold on mobile devices. Test on screens as small as 320px width.

  • Product page conversion rate: Expect 8-15% improvement within 2-4 weeks of implementation

  • AVOID: Placing prices below the fold or requiring users to select variants before showing pricing. BEST PRACTICE: Display starting price immediately with "from $X" format for variable products.
  • AVOID: Using tiny fonts or low-contrast colors that make prices hard to read on mobile devices. BEST PRACTICE: Test price visibility on actual mobile devices, not just browser dev tools.
  • AVOID: Hiding shipping costs until checkout, creating sticker shock. BEST PRACTICE: Display "Free shipping over $X" or shipping calculator near pricing.
  • AVOID: Overwhelming users with too many price variants or complex tiering. BEST PRACTICE: Show one clear price with simple "Save more when you buy 2+" messaging.
