Shopify Plus vs Shopify in 2026: Pricing, Features and When to Upgrade

Plus starts at $2,300 a month, and lower fees alone rarely pay for it. What Plus adds over Basic, Grow and Advanced in 2026, what it no longer does, and how to decide with your own numbers.

Shopify Plus is Shopify's top plan, starting at $2,300 a month against $299 to $399 for Advanced. It runs on the same platform but adds full checkout customization, custom Shopify Functions, unlimited B2B catalogs, up to 9 expansion stores, unlimited staff, higher API limits and lower payment fees. The lower fees alone only cover the price gap at roughly $800,000 a month in online card sales, so for most brands the decision comes down to whether they need what Plus unlocks.

In short
  • Plus starts at $2,300 a month; Basic, Grow and Advanced cost $39 to $399 billed monthly.
  • Plus adds checkout customization, custom Functions, expansion stores, unlimited B2B catalogs and staff.
  • Shopify Flow is on every paid plan, and Shopify Scripts stopped running on June 30, 2026.
  • Upgrade for a capability you need, not for prestige or fees alone.

Shopify plans compared

Shopify's pricing page (Fall '26 Edition) lists four main plans. Card rates are for online payments through Shopify Payments in the US; the third-party fee applies when you use a different payment provider.

What Plus actually adds

  • Checkout customization. All plans can brand the checkout and add apps to the thank you and order status pages. Plus can also customize the information, shipping and payment steps with checkout extensions, for example custom fields, delivery rules or B2B payment terms.
  • Custom Shopify Functions. Plus stores can run their own custom functions for discounts, shipping, payment and checkout logic, rather than relying only on public apps.
  • Expansion stores. Up to 9 additional stores for other regions, brands or wholesale, managed under one organization.
  • B2B at scale. Every paid plan gets up to 3 B2B catalogs; Plus removes the limit.
  • Scale and team. Unlimited staff accounts, 200 inventory locations, up to 10x API rate limits and up to 25 headless storefronts.
  • Shopify Audiences for building ad audiences from Shopify's network data.
  • Lower fees. A lower online card rate and a 0.2% fee on third-party payment providers.

What Plus no longer adds

Many comparisons online are out of date. Three points that used to favor Plus no longer apply:

Old claimStatus in 2026
Shopify Flow is Plus-onlyFlow has been available on Basic, Shopify (now Grow), Advanced and Plus since July 2023
Plus can edit checkout.liquidcheckout.liquid is no longer supported; customization runs through checkout extensions
Plus gets Shopify ScriptsScripts stopped running on June 30, 2026; Shopify Functions replaced them
Already on Plus with an older setup? If your store once relied on Scripts or checkout.liquid, check that discounts, shipping rules and checkout fields were rebuilt with Functions and checkout extensions. Anything that was not migrated has stopped working.

The break-even math

Compare Plus with Advanced on fees first. Plus costs about $2,000 more per month than Advanced billed yearly ($2,300 against $299). Its online card rate is 0.25 percentage points lower (2.25% against 2.5%), so the saving equals the price gap at roughly $800,000 a month in online card sales; against Advanced billed monthly, at roughly $760,000. If you use a third-party payment provider, the fee drops from 0.6% to 0.2%, a 0.4-point saving that covers the gap at roughly $500,000 a month.

Monthly online card salesAdvanced card fees (2.5%)Plus card fees (2.25%)Saving vs ~$2,000 extra plan cost
$100,000$2,500$2,250$250: Plus costs about $1,750 more
$400,000$10,000$9,000$1,000: Plus costs about $1,000 more
$800,000$20,000$18,000$2,000: roughly even

The 30-cent per-order charge is the same on both plans, and rates differ by country and card type, so run your own mix. Also note that at high volumes Plus moves from the flat price to a variable fee based on revenue, set in each contract; third-party guides report a threshold of around $800,000 a month. Below that level, Plus has to earn its price through what it lets you do.

When to upgrade, and when Advanced is enough

A faster or better-converting storeAny plan: it depends on the theme and pages, not the plan

The last row matters most. Plus does not make product pages clearer, carts cheaper or mobile pages faster. Most lost orders happen before checkout, so fix those first with Shopify conversion rate optimization and Shopify speed optimization. When checkout does become the constraint, checkout flow optimization shows what to change, and Plus gives you the access to change it.

What upgrading involves

Moving to Plus is a plan change, not a replatform: the store, theme, products, customers and order history stay where they are. The work is in using what Plus unlocks: building checkout extensions or custom functions, setting up expansion stores and markets, and reviewing apps whose features Plus now covers natively. Brands planning a headless build should also read Shopify Hydrogen in 2026, since storefront limits differ by plan.

How Glued helps

Glued designs and builds Shopify stores on every plan and starts from conversion data, not plan tier. We help brands decide whether a Plus capability will move revenue, then design, build and test it, from checkout changes to a full website overhaul. Start with a free audit.

The bottom line

Shopify Plus is worth it when you need what only it offers: checkout customization, custom functions, expansion stores, large B2B programs or enterprise limits. On fees alone it rarely pays off below about $800,000 a month in online card sales. Until then, Advanced plus a well-optimized store usually earns more.

FAQ

How much does Shopify Plus cost?

Shopify lists Plus as starting at $2,300 a month. Third-party pricing guides report $2,300 on a three-year term and $2,500 on a one-year term, with a revenue-based variable fee replacing the flat price at high sales volumes. The exact terms are set in each contract.

What is the difference between Shopify and Shopify Plus?

Plus is Shopify's top plan. It adds full checkout customization, custom Shopify Functions, unlimited B2B catalogs, up to 9 free expansion stores, unlimited staff accounts, 200 inventory locations, up to 10x API rate limits, Shopify Audiences and lower card and third-party fees. The core platform, themes and apps are the same.

Is Shopify Plus worth it?

Usually when the business needs something only Plus offers, such as checkout customization, several stores for different markets, larger B2B programs or higher API limits. On fees alone, Plus only pays for itself against Advanced at roughly $800,000 a month in online card sales.

Shopify Advanced vs Plus: which should I choose?

Stay on Advanced if you run one store, your checkout needs are covered by branding and apps, and B2B fits within three catalogs. Move to Plus when you need checkout logic, several expansion stores, unlimited staff or higher API limits, or when card volume makes the lower rate pay off.

Does Shopify Plus have lower transaction fees?

Yes. Shopify's pricing page lists an online card rate of 2.25% plus 30 cents on Plus against 2.5% plus 30 cents on Advanced, and a third-party payment provider fee of 0.2% against 0.6%. Rates vary by country and card type.

Do I need Shopify Plus for Shopify Flow?

No. Shopify Flow has been available on the Basic, Shopify (now Grow), Advanced and Plus plans since July 2023, so automation alone is no longer a reason to upgrade.
